Welcome to Family Trail Talk, a community space for families, readers, hikers, educators, and library friends to share ideas, reflections, and favorite moments from the trail.

Read & Hike Idaho was created to help families connect books with outdoor experiences. A story can help children notice the world in a new way, and a hike can bring that story to life through trees, rivers, rocks, birds, wildflowers, mountain views, and quiet moments of discovery.

This blog space is here for families to connect with one another. You are invited to share:

  • Books your family enjoyed before or after a hike

  • Favorite trails for young children

  • Nature observations from your adventures

  • Questions about hiking with kids

  • Ideas for outdoor reading activities

  • Reflections from library programs, StoryWalks, or family hike days

  • Tips that might help another family feel more confident getting outside

To begin, we would love to hear from you:

What is one book, trail, or outdoor moment your family has loved recently?

You might share a favorite read-aloud, a trail your child enjoyed, something surprising you noticed outside, or a simple moment that made your family’s day special.

Thank you for helping build a welcoming space where families can connect through reading, hiking, curiosity, and time spent together outdoors.
